E-Learning Channels To Promote E-Learning by Swayam Prabha

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has recently launched a unique e-learning digital subscription programme by the name of SWAYAM Prabha. The purpose of this initiative is to enhance and improve the learning and studying capacity of students by bringing education with entertainment. By the help of various DTH channels, the noble initiative aims to upgrade the learning skills of maximum students. The class wise study material is basically telecasted through these E-classes in the form of informative educational programmes which runs 24x7 for the students to make their stay at home period beneficial during the nationwide lockdown.

What is SWAYAM Prabha?

Union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' made a crucial decision to launch e-learning in view of the ongoing lockdown for the students on SWAYAM Prabha DTH channels. Through this scheme students can access fresh study content daily for 4 hours on SWAYAM Prabha DTH channels. Also, they can watch the repeat telecast of the same, 5 more times in a day, allowing students to choose their study time as per their convenience. As of now, SWAYAM Prabha will be aired only in selected states of India but will soon be launched pan India.  

Taking the present covind19 outbreak scenario into consideration, this initiative is launched to compensate the loss of students in studies. It is believed that through an interactive medium, students can stay connected and resume their studies.

Through the GSAT-15 satellite, a total of 32 DTH channels are currently being telecasted under SWAYAM Prabha subscription initiative. All major educational institutes such as NPTEL, IITs, NCERT, UGC, CEC, IGNOU and NIOS are the content partners of SWAYAM Prabha. The responsibility of maintaining SWAYAM Prabha web portal lies with INFLIBNET.

Who will benefit from SWAYAM Prabha e-classes?

Students benefiting through SWAYAM Prabha subscription are as under:

1.    Senior Secondary students (9-12 class): 

The objective of SWAYAM Prabha is not just to groom younger students of primary classes but it also holds modules to educate students of higher classes in school.

The study content is designed in order to provide students with proper guidance to secure their future by achieving detailed knowledge of all subjects and acquiring needful information about all career opportunities in the future.

2.    Students belonging to higher education level: 

The DTH e-classes will provide an informative structured curriculum-based course and  contents for postgraduates and under-graduate level learners. Students belonging from different disciplines such as science, performing arts, arts, commerce, social sciences and humanities, engineering, law, medicine,  technology, agriculture, etc can also access the required content of their respective fields through SWAYAM Prabha channels. These training aids will not only help the student to study for curriculum syllabus but also prepare for the competitive exams to seek admission in professional degree courses.

There are different curriculum-based courses for learners to study and gain knowledge about various practical daily life problems. Hassle Free classes – The study material which is being telecasted on the TV channels will be available 24x7 for the students. Out of which new content will be covered in 4 hours and repeat telecast of the previous content will be telecasted 5 times in the remaining time.
